Welcome to the website of the European Feminist Forum. The European Feminist Forum was created as a vast online discussion and as a face to face meeting. This website is filled with the remarkable products and conversations that arose out of the project in the period 2006-2008. In the end, the networking happened but the face to face event did not. The organisers had to stop preparations when it became clear that we could not raise enough money to physically bring people together (read more in the Announcement). That is when we invented the idea of writing a book. There were so many new thoughts formulated, so many ideas generated. They need to be shared.
The idea of the European Feminist Forum was developed by activists in Eastern and Western Europe who shared a need for an explicitly feminist space where responses to the changing social, economic and political realities in Europe could be discussed and explored. The European Feminist Forum attempted to build a renewed, shared vision on pressing pan-European issues, from a feminist perspective, and moving beyond the European Union’s new divisive boundaries. Europe is composed of more countries than those inside the European Union. Feminist networks were the organizers steering the process, and hundreds of organized and individual feminist activists volunteered to prepare the content for the forum, by forming an affinity group on a chosen theme.
Reflecting on the results of the European Feminist Forum, three main topics for further debate stand out: body politics, economy and our movement. The organisers are presently preparing a book with these three themes at its center. The book will present through many different voices the state of art feminist knowledge and will map the state of the movement in Europe. We hope that our publication will substantially contribute to a future European feminist forum initiative.
We still strongly believe in the need for a European Feminist Forum face-to-face meeting, and we hope that new initiatives will spring up elsewhere to promote this. We offer everything we have learned in the process, our skills and contacts, plus the body of information that we now have, to everyone who wishes to work on a European Feminist Forum in the future.
The website will remain online for at least two years. You are welcome to send your comments to the EFF discussion list or send them to the Secretariat: info[at]europeanfeministforum.org.
