A discourse on the influence of Western feminism on Central Asian societies. The group aims to analyse results of cooperation between radical feminists of Germany and women’s movement of post-soviet Central Asia.

Objectives

The general aim of Modern Feminism: from West to East Affinity Group group is:
- To create a discussion ground on implication of western feminist ideas in Central Asian societies.
- To analyse results of cooperation between feminists of Germany and women’s movement of Kazakhstan and other countries of CA during last decade (1997-2007).

Expected results

How ideas of western radical feminism of 80-90-es were transformed to conditions and needs of women’s movement of post-soviet Central Asia.

Planned activities

- Writing analytic articles, taking interviews from leaders of women’s organizations in Germany, in particular in Altenbuecken (April- May 2007)
- Working meeting of the whole Affinity Group in Almaty (June 2007).
- Writing analytic articles, taking interviews from leaders of women’s organizations of Central Asia about cooperation and interrelations of West and East in promoting feminist ideas (July-October 2007).
- Joint bilingual (German-Russian) publication “Feminism from West to East: 10 years of aspiration and joy” (title to be confirmed) (October-November 2007).
- Preparation of English version of publication for EFF web-site and conference in Poland in 2008. (December 2007).
