Ewa Dąbrowska-Szulc

My name is Ewa Dąbrowska - Szulc. I am the president for Pro Femina Association. I have started thinking in a feminist way when I was 5 years old. It was more than a half century ago. I kept wondering why girls and women are treated differently to boys and men. I found some answers in Gender Studies of Graduate School for Social Research (created by Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Sciences) in Warsaw.

When in Poland in the spring of 1989 politicians decided to vote for anti-abortion law in Polish parliament, I joined many a rally of thousands and thousands protestors. Since that time I have become a street fighting feminist. In November 1989 a group of Varsavians have founded Pro Femina Association, which is a grass-root, one issue (abortion on demand) pro-choice non-governmental organization. PFA is one of nine organizations that co-operate as the Federation for Women and Family Planning.

Because of massive anti-choice backlash in Poland Wanda NOWICKA (the executive director FWFP) is very busy and asked me to act as an official representative for the Federation / ASTRA network in the EFF preparation jobs.

Part of EFF

I am excited about European Feminist Forum as it would create a real space to exchange views among feminist activists of various backgrounds. I would like to learn about methods that enhance parity in Polish parliament and government. I believe EFF is a unique opportunity to demonstrate to Poland, to Europe and to the rest of the world who we - European feminist - are, what our goals are like and what we do care about.

Other feminists, especially young ones, should join in EFF because we ought to communicate not only ideas, information and news but also values, feelings and emotions.
