Group Aims

The European Money & Movement Affinity Group (MMAG) has been set up to continue the discussions and investigations started in Queretaro, Mexico on the nature and challenges of funding women’s movements’ activities in Europe. The Money & Movement Affinity Group is largely a cyberspace discussion group that is preparing for the face to face EFF meeting on European Money & Movements.

Issues

Some of the issues the Money & Movement Affinity Group will address are:

- How is the funding happening in Europe: what is being funded, who decides, who has the money, how is it accessed and distributed;

- How is the money used, the issue of short versus long term money, how do women with different issues and from different parts of Europe view money etc;

- How do we address the gaps among grassroots and professional/academic organizations: isolation of rural women activists, migrant and Roma women’s groups, Diaspora philanthropy, issues of volunteerism versus professionalism;

- How do we understand fundraising in relation to the overall concerns around economic transition, globalization as well as the political aspects that divide women’s movement (including the role of the EU and the historical divides between East West Central Europe etc).

Contact and Membership

The Money & Movement Affinity Group includes 18 members from 14 countries, who call themselves the M&Ms, but is open to anyone interested in joining. Please address inquiries, comments, or suggestions to the coordinator: daniela.draghici@gmail.com.

Collaboration

The MMAG is working in coordination with the Intergenerational Dialogue Affinity Group (IDAG), also proposed during the Queretaro meeting. Some of the members are part of both Affinity Groups, which are meant to complement each other and not overlap. The coordinators of the two Affinity Groups are responsible for the overall coordination process.
